Venous Ulcerations

Michael Manning - Sunday, November 06, 2011

Venous ulcers are non healing sores that are typically located just above the ankle. They represent the most severe form of lower extremity venous disease. They occur because high venous pressures (venous hypertension) within certain leg veins interfere with the nutrition of the skin just above the ankle.

We have been able to effectively treat many patients with venous ulcers by using the endovenous laser to destroy the veins that are the source of the ulcer. Most ulcers then heal within 2 to 3 weeks and rarely recur. Patients with venous ulcers are fun to treat because their results are so dramatic. The quality of their lives is significantly improved and they are among the most grateful patients we treat.
